Carry Your EDC Gear with the Tarahumara Pack by Hill People Gear
The Tarahumara Pack by Hill People Gear is small, compact and versatile that makes a great EDC (every day carry) bag. The bag was originally intended to be used for hydration but evolved into a multi-purpose pack. The first thing I noticed was “Made in the USA”. I’m all for supporting gear made here at home, because quite simply it’s the best. It’s made with 500d Cordura fabric and comes in Foliage, Ranger Green and Coyote. The pack that I’m reviewing is Foliage Gray.
The Tarahumara Pack is around 17″ tall and 9″ wide. The capacity is claimed to be around 750 cubic inches. The pack is tapered from top to bottom giving you around 6″ inches of depth near the base of the bag. The buckles are comparable to the USMC packs which means they are heavy duty and can take some real punishment. You can instantly tell that the zipper is quality and highly durable which gives you the peace of mind knowing you can really stuff this pack full of gear without worrying about it busting.
The shoulder harness on the Tarahumara Pack is really what sets this pack apart from the others. Most other packs use a two strap system where this particular harness uses one continuous piece of material to achieve the comfort you should expect in a backpack. It’s truly a night and day difference which makes a huge difference the longer you wear it. For this one reason, it’s the most comfortable pack I’ve ever worn.
The harness can also be removed and the pack can be used as a compression pack for a larger bag. The other bonus of being able to remove the harness strap is that it can be used on other bags that allow you to replace the harness system.
The Tarahumara Pack consists of two compression straps, a paracord lashing system used with webbing loops to help store items below the pack such as a sleeping bag and two wand pockets for water bottles. The back of the pack is horizontally stitched to allow the foam backing to contour your back. Behind the foam backing is a pocket which could store anything from firearms, maps or even a small laptop. The main compartment area is one single storage area – there aren’t any small pockets for organizing loose items.
If you want a quality compact pack, the Tarahumara Pack is an obvious choice. Being made right here in the USA is reason enough for me. You can tell Hill People Gear take their products seriously and manufacture quality gear. It makes a great EDC bag for daily use as well as light day pack if you’re into hiking. I also like the fact that it’s made to accommodate a water bladder than can be hosed up through the top of the pack. The versatility this pack offers makes this pack stand out above the rest in its class.
